OUTDOOR RECREATION IS A
SUMMERLIN HALLMARK

If outdoor recreation is your thing, the master-planned community of Summerlin is a great place to live and play. The community is in a league of its own when it comes to recreational amenities in the Las Vegas Valley, according to Kevin Orrock, top division executive of The Howard Hughes Corporation, developer of Summerlin.

“Summerlin boasts more outdoor recreational amenities than any other master-planned community in Las Vegas,” he says. “An active, adventurous lifestyle is easily a Summerlin hallmark.”
With more than 150 parks of all sizes, Summerlin has a court or field to accommodate just about any sport, including tennis, basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, T-ball, football __ even bocce ball and shuffleboard.

Famous for its meandering trails, Summerlin currently boasts more than 150 miles of completed trails ideal for walkers, runners and cyclists. The trails that wind through neighborhoods and villages not only provide great places to enjoy the outdoors, they link neighbors to each other and residents to major community amenities.

Summerlin’s recreational amenities have always earned high marks in homebuyer surveys. In fact, residents rank the Summerlin trail system, which offers miles of uninterrupted and varied scenery, as the community’s No. 1 amenity. Summerlin’s trail system also has garnered national attention, which earned The Howard Hughes Corporation the American Trails Developer Award in 2008.

The community’s three pools accommodate a variety of water sports __ from deep- water synchronized swimming to fitness lap swimming and water lounging. And Summerlin is home to no fewer than nine golf courses, including Nevada’s only two Tournament Players Club (TPC) courses.

“There’s no excuse for not staying fit or keeping active in Summerlin with immediate access to a broad range of recreational options,” Orrock says. “We constantly evaluate Summerlin’s list of amenities, looking for ways to make the community’s offerings even better. The community’s close proximity to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and the Spring Mountain Range make it a true recreational haven for those who appreciate an active outdoor lifestyle.”

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is considered one of the country’s top destinations for rock climbing, cycling and mountain biking. In fact, National Geographic Adventure named Las Vegas as the country’s top city to live and play based on its proximity to world-class recreational venues. The article, published in September 2007, cited Summerlin specifically as one of the Valley’s best places to live because of its immediate adjacency to this popular outdoor area.

The Summerlin Council, the nonprofit organization that oversees the community’s social, cultural and recreational activities, also plays a role in promoting the healthy Summerlin lifestyle, according to Orrock. Each year, The Summerlin Council coordinates dozens of recreational activities and athletic competitions for residents, including 5k marathons, community basketball tournaments and a variety of sports leagues for residents of all ages.

On a professional level, Tournament Players Club (TPC) at Summerlin has hosted the PGA Tour’s Las Vegas Invitational (now the Justin Timberlake Shriners Children’s Hospital Open) for more than 15 years. In fact, Tiger Woods won his first professional tournament at TPC Summerlin in 1997.
Developed by The Howard Hughes Corporation, an affiliate of General Growth Properties Inc., Summerlin began to take shape in 1990 and has ranked as one of the top 10 best-selling master-planned communities for more than a decade.
